  1. LIINDA EATON says:

Ron was the best Chicago Cub thir baseman

  2. Kyle Brune says:

The numbers he put up on some bad teams while battling diabetes merit his election to the Hall.

  3. Scott A Joseph, MD says:

Come on already. When he played, the only better defensive 3rd baseman was Robinson.

  4. ken morse says:

Their is no way why Ron is not in the Hall of Fame. He has done a lot for baseball and kids too, so let get him in ok ”’.

  5. Terry L. Winkles says:

This is ridiculous. A player of such caliber should have been in the Hall of Fame years ago.

  6. Michael Louthan says:

With the years he has played with all his gold gloves and his stats This is a no brainer What is wrong with the members of the hall of fame?

  7. John Reid says:

    He’s way past due!

  8. Mike Field says:

One of many, but just about the leading omission in any sport.

  9. Terry Skweres says:

Please dont wait until he passes to induct him

  10. Ron Santo’s has a better record then most of the 3rd basemen in the hall of fame! He belongs there!

  11. I’ve been a Santo fan since 1968… I’ve created a video that combines my love of the game with my desire to see Ronnie in the Hall of Fame… hope you like it.

  12. Rick Morlan says:

I just want to say that Ron Santo deserves to be in the hall of fame! He is truly an inspiration to many. I hope whoever is in charge of the veterans commitee will realize this and do the right thing!

  13. Trent says:

    Get him in already!

  14. Kurt says:

Ron Santo absolutely deserves to be in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

No less an authority than Brooks Robinson has said so, publicly.

Robinson — the ’60s best AL 3B while Santo was the best NL 3B — was a first-ballot HoFer basically because he had the tendency to turn into Superman in the World Series, when all the writers were watching. Take away Robinson’s WS stats (and the fact that he of course played in it four times) and his longevity . . . and Santo is arguably a BETTER HoF candidate!

Note that Robinson hit 74 fewer regular-season homers despite having played eight MORE seasons.

Note also that Santo’s lifetime BA of .277 is ten points HIGHER than Robinson’s.

And yes, I think Santo’s medical issues are a truly legitimate consideration, not “just a sympathy thing.” He was the first, and for his entire career, the only, athlete to reach and sustain at the major-league level in ANY sport with Type 1 juvenile diabetes. What Santo accomplished is especially astonishing in retrospect, given the fact that he had to regulate his blood sugar levels with the primitive 1960s tools of Snickers bars and orange juice.

ron deserves to be in hall of fame, was one of the best third basemen. put him in the hall!!!!

  16. shawn siemsen says:

ron deserves to be in the hall, he was one of the best third basemen ever to play the game. put him in the hall !!!!!

  17. Wayne Dameron says:

I heartily agree with all above that Ron Santo belongs in the HOF without a doubt.

  18. Eric says:

it’s an insult to deny Ron Santo this Honor.

  19. Eric says:

It’s an in sult to deny Ron Santo this Honor.

  20. Donna Wojack says:

Ron Santo is so deserving of the honor to be in the Hall of Fame. His stats alone should get him there. He is truly one of the biggest baseball fans and he is always willing to talk to other fans and to sign autographs. We love listening to him and Pat on the WGN radio.

  21. Scott McClanaha says:

So, I just watched the Ron Santo documentary on MLB. I was reminded of just what a sensational ballplayer Ronnie was. He is absolutely deserving of being in the Hall of Fame. I am appalled that he has been repeatedly denied entry and wonder what the selection committee is thinking (or not thinking). Hello, with the stats he accumulated over his stellar career it is a crime for him to be passed over time and time again. My only consolation is his number flied with Ernie and Billie over the field they once dominated. Get your act together and get him into the hall so he can speak at the induction ceremony.

  22. kay mayes says:

consistently good yr after yr after yr

  23. Chris Campolettano says:

    Send Ron to the HOF!!

  24. Jtbwriter says:

“This Old Cub” has the credentials and the stats to be elected to the Hall of Fame. Please, MLB, don’t turn it into a Hall of Shame by not voting Ron Santo into the 2010 Hall of Fame!

  25. Terry says:

It is a shame that Ron is not in…..he dedicated his life to a sport he so loved and a team he loved even more. The members of the veteran committee really need to take a look at themselves and ask why on earth are we always rejecting such a man with such a big heart…I doubt many members of the committee can say they have the heart of a Ron Santo….Please don’t delay something that he deserves so much.

  26. boris555 says:

    www pontocruz com br,

  27. Please do the right thing for Ronnie, He is so deserving. not to mention that he is a lovely, wonderful, kind and sweet man. Please!!

  28. Peggy says:

It’s a shame that Santo has to sit back and watch much younger and undeserving players get inducted. His lifetime stats are more impressive than some of the current members. If Barry Bonds should happen to get in before Santo, then someone should start a petition boycotting the hall.

  29. Barb Halpern says:

What does this great player need to do? I would hate to see him pass away and the hall’s response it to elect him after the fact.

  30. Terry says:

Ron Santo has been passed over countless times for induction into the Hall of Fame. I ask why? Comparing Ron’s number with 2 other Hall of Famers and I see no reason that he shouldn’t be other than the fact that the other 2 players played in the world series and Ron never did. Granted he played on some awful Cub teams but you can’t blame him for that. I am going to show you a comparison and you can be the judge. Here are some stats to compare….

    Brooks Robinson: Games, 2896……AB, 10654……Runs, 1232…..Hits, 2848…..2B, 482…..3B, 68…..HR, 268…..RBI’s, 1357…..OBP, 322…..Slg, 401…..Avg, 267…..Fpct, 971

    Mike Schmidt: Games, 2404…..AB, 8352…..Runs, 1516…..Hits, 2234…..2B, 408…..3B, 59…..HR, 548…..RBI’s, 1595…..OBP, 380…..Slg, 527…..Avg, 267…..Fpct, 961

    Ron Santo: Games, 2243…..AB, 8143…..Runs, 1138…..Hits, 2254…..2B, 365…..3B, 67…..HR, 342…..RBI’s, 1331…..OBP, 362…..Slg, 464…..Avg, 277…..Fpct, 954

After comparing these stats do you see any great difference in the players other than the fact that Mike Schmidt was a power hitter more than the other players. Also keep in mind while comparing these stats that Brooks Robinson played 23 seasons, Mike Schmidt played 18 seasons, and Ron Santo played 15 seasons. The only logical reason I can even think of is the fact Robinson and Schmidt got to play in the world series and Santo didn’t thus it prevented him from getting more press than the others. Plus the fact it seemed that every time Robinson played he was standing on his head making plays But just the facts need to be compared over the course of a career. Lets not forget that Ron played with diabetes his whole career. I don’t want him voted in out of sympathy but he played when medication at times was juice and a candy bar. The Hall of Fame Committee has had more than a few chances to vote Ron in. WILL THEY EVER GET IT RIGHT?

  31. Dennis Sheldon says:

Why is Ron Santo not in the Hall of Fame??? What a hero for us all, not only professionally but personally too. His heart could not be any bigger, nor could he have a bigger love for the game. I made my oldest child watch “This Old Cub” tonight so she could appreciate who her dad has been holding in such high regard all these years. Santo’s professional record stands for itself- he has earned and deserves a spot in the Hall of Fame. I know Ron Santo is a better man for enduring many hardships over his life and career. He does not need a plaque to let people know who he is and what he has done. Mr. Santo, you are a hero to me and I am passing down to my children the Chicago Cub that daddy loves the most. I salute you sir- you are our ‘Hall of Famer’. Respectfully, Dennis Sheldon

  32. AJ Skiera says:

I sometimes can’t believe the thought of denying Ron Santo the Hall of Fame but hey, it’s what they think.

  33. edward samuelian says:

Ron Santo has the stats to be in the Hall of Fame. They speak louder than World Series rings.
Ron is kick ass third baseman and his hitting was on the par of Brooks the benchmark.

  34. Anthony Belline says:

In this era of performance enhancing players how can the Veterans committee over look Ron Santo? A man that has served his profession with honor and courage, Ron played with condition that is as devastating on a person as one can imagine. He showed a desire to excel on a daily basis and proved to the world that a man can overcome a medical problem and turn into one of the top third baseman in major league ball. This is not just my opinion but Ron ahs the stats to prove it and you all know it. Now please stop judging the team and the organization and induct Ron Santo in to Baseballs Hall of Fame. On the same note Pete Rose should also be indicted into the hall. The users should be banned from BASEBALL after all our kids are watching.

  35. Rob Zahnd says:

The fact that Ron Santo has not been inducted into the Hall of Fame is a disgrace to major league baseball. The man is arguably the best third baseman to ever play the game. It is amazing that Ron was able to accomplish everything he did while battling Type 1 diabetes, a serious, life altering illness. The fact that the veterans’ comitte has omitted Ron for so long is a serious black eye to that group, in my humble opinion. Do the right- put Santo in the Hall already!

  36. Dale Shepard says:

C’mon baseball, get with the program. A roids free ballplayer who has the overwhelming support of most of your inductees that are still alive is enough reason. Stats are good enough, character is good enough and support is good enough.

What’s there to think about? And take the voting out of the hands of the sport writers from crying out loud. These guys couldn’t pour piss out of a boot, much less play baseball. Most writers I know were those booger-eating, snot-crusted little kids that were always picked last at recess iin grade school.

Does it look like John Clayton has ever played a sport that wasn’t attached to some Playstation controller?

  37. Chris Hickey says:

Ron gave everything he had when he was playing for the Cubs. His stats speak for themselves along with the Gold Gloves & All Star appearances.

  38. Eric Friedl says:

As long as Ron Santo is not in the Hall of Fame, the Hall has no validity or credibility. It was never meant to be a “Good ol’ Boys Club”, but the Committee’s failure to elect Santo reveals it as just that. Validate your own membership. Elect Ron Santo, truly one of the all-time greats.

  39. Adam P says:

Ron Santo has gone through more than anybody to play in the MLB. He played for ‘60 to ‘74 in the MLB with diabetes, and nobody even knew about it. He played through great diversity and has better numbers than some people already in the hall. He hit 343 career home runs with a career .274 BA. He deserves to be in Cooperstown not only for his carreer for the Cubs, but for what he has done for baseball, get with the program Veterans Commitee!!!!!!

  40. robert mannion says:

Ron Santo has all the numbers that justify his election into the Hall of Fame. What is of equal if not greater significance is that he has all the good traits a baseball player and role model for young people should posses. He has integrity, hard working, dedicated to the sport and its fans and he is an outstanding spokesman for all that is good in baseball. It is time to put him in the Hall of Fame now..

  41. Britton Sukys says:

The Hall means nothing if a class act like Ron isn’t in it.

  42. Glenn Crespo says:

Santo was one of the best during his time…..better than Ken McMullen, Ed Charles and the like. You can compare him to Brooks Robinson on the AL side….Santo belongs in the Hall….dependable day in and day out….

  43. Mike Friberg says:

    Bring back ron!!

  44. Fred Sermersheim says:

Ron Santo was and is great put him in the hall.

  45. Cameron Lucey says:

It’s ridiculous that this man is not in the HOF!!!! These committee members better wake up and smell the coffee. Santo more than deserves a plaque in Cooperstown.

  46. B-rad says:

Rice, Kell, Perez, relief pitchers, DH’s…..but NOT Ron Santo or Tony Oliva? You’re kidding, right? A voting committee that doesn’t vote anyone in…nice!

  47. Daniel Sharp says:

9 tim all star. come on. in a time period when to be an all star meant you were the best. he was for a long time. its just plane stupid he’s not in the hall.

  48. Dave Wollenberg says:

It’s a travesty that Ronnie Santo isn’ t in the HoF yet. I don’t know what the Veterans’ Committee is thinkin’, but they’re denyin’ a trulyi great player his place in the Hall. I hope he doesn’t have to die before he gets in!

  49. Bill Ackroyd says:

Something must be terribly wrong with the Baseball Hall of Fame and/or the people that run it. Ron Santo’s statistics place him either equal to or far above many other people that are already inducted in the Hall. His character and behavior show him to be a shining example of how a professional should behave which is much more than can be said for many people who have already been inducted. To my way of thinking, membership in the Baseball Hall of Fame should be determined on what the person did between the white lines. If that isn’t enough to allow Ron Santo membership, the system is faulty. One thing I can say for sure…..the Hall will never see another penny from me until Ron Santo has been inducted and this terrible wrong has been righted. An apology for the disgraceful delay in this happening would be a classy move too. This shrine is supposed to be a BASEBALL Hall of Fame, NOT a hall of fame for who schmoozes who the best or who likes who as a person. If the people selected to make this choice can’t understand that, it’s time to find people that do.

  50. Robert S. Beckwith says:

Santo fits squarely within the middle of the group of third basemen in the Hall of Fame. Santo was arguably the best player at his position in the major leagues for an extended period of time, a dominant hitter and a great defender. He should be in the Hall of Fame.
