  1. I think Ron Santo deserves to be in the hall of fame.
He was a terrific power hitter who put up terrific numbers.
He was a great fielding thirdbaseman with 5 gold gloves.
I have read about him and watched the marvelous movie This Old Cub!
This man is a rold model .
He acheived batteling diebetes his whole career.
    He will get my vote.
    Iam an avid Cubs fan!
    I hail from South Africa

  2. John Griffin says:

Ron Santo should be in the Hall of Fame! He was a great defensive 3rd baseman and had great offensive numbers in an era of great pitching. Most remarkable was the fact that he was able to play at such a high level for so many years in spite of having a severe health problem-diabetes. I remember reading about his illness late in his career when he finally admitted that he had to give himself insulin shots throughout his career but kept it a secret from the press. The life expectancy of someone with his condition was very short. Most people died at a young age with his condition but he didn’t want any sympathy or special treatment so he kept it a secret. He also thought that he might not be given a chance to succeed if his condition became known. In the movie “This Old Cub”, he talked about having a diabetic reaction late in a game in the early 70’s, coming up to bat against Bill Singer seeing 3 of him as well as 3 balls coming at him when he batted in the 9th with 2 on. He picked the ball in the middle to swing at, lashing out at the 1st pitch and hitting a walk off, 3 run homer for a dramatic Cubs win! That has to be one of the most remarkable feats in baseball history and it is overlooked, just like this great man is with the Hall of Fame selection committee. It isn’t so much his stats that are overlooked (which are worthy in itself) but a brave player who overcame a severe health problem and still had a great career in spite of it. This should not be overlooked. Few healthy 3rd basemen put up numbers comparable to Ron’s and he did it battling a severe physical impairment that later cost him his lower legs (due to diabetic peripheral vascular disease). Has there been any other ballplayer in the Hall of Fame that accomplished so much while playing their entire career with a health problem as severe as Ron’s? Putting him in the Hall of Fame, which he deserves, will be a glowing testament for others with disabilities that they can accomplish the impossible (like Ron did) in spite of their impairment. Put Ron in the Hall now! Thank you

  3. Dave Hall says:

Ronnie couldn’t carry Kenny Boyers J-Strap

  4. Gary Breeden says:

Ron Santo should be in the Hall of Fame. First of all, 3b is an under-
represented position in the HOF. One judgement is will the player under consideration lower the standards of the Hall. In Santo’s case, that is an emphatic NO!

The stature of the HOF would only be enhanced by Santo’s election.

His career statistics are very worthy of induction. While not in Mike Schmidt’s stratosphere of HRs or RBIs, who else is? Santo and Ken Boyer were the dominant 3Bs of the 1960s. Both deserve Hall status though Santo should be first. His career stats were better.

Santo, like Ernie Banks and Billy Williams, should not be denied the HOF
just because they played for the Chicago Cubs when they were not a good team. That was ownerships problem not Santo’s.

Was Santo a dominant player during the era of Aaron, Mays, Robinson, etc.? I say yes. He was not the best player during that exhalted era but who else could be? But his string of 20+ HRs and 100+ RBIs was most impressive during a decade when pitching was dominant. And, as mentioned, he was the best 3B of the 1960s, in either league.

Finally, his defense, leadership and also to be considered, his post-active career accomplishments to the game should count for something too. I have lived in Oklahoma all my life and grew up a Yankee fan first of all, but mostly as a baseball I fan I enjoyed the achievements of all great players of my youth. Ron Santo was one of those great players who now deserve recognition for a career and a life well lived.

  5. John Keeton says:

I concur with everything above. Look at all of the years he played over 150 games at 3B the hardest position to play with the possible exceptions of C, P, and CF and I think 3B is as hard as all of them. Heck, look at the hits, batting average and the dingers. Goodness gracious. This guy deserves to get in already. If the veterans do not see this they need their heads examined.

One final thing, how many 3B are ranked ahead of him all time? 3-5 maybe. Disgusting!

  6. Bill says:

Ron Santo should be in the Hall of Fame alongside Mike Schmidt. There numbers are not that far apart and besides Ron Santo has done a great deal for the game outside of his playing career.

  7. Scott Lewis says:

Ron Santo absolutley deserves to be in the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame. If Mike Schmidt is in the Hall of Fame then Ron Santo should be there along side him.

  8. Mike Cheves says:

I agree..He should be in the Hall.

  9. Tom Anderson says:

If the Hall of Fame truly is for the fans, then Ron Santo is a no-brainer. His numbers say he should be in, and so do his fans!

  10. Doug Mann says:

    Go Ron!

  11. Bob Lewandowski says:

Growing up I was fortunate to watch two of the ratest third baseman to play baseball, Brooks Robinson in the American League and Ron Santo in the National. It is teim that Ron sits with Brooks in the Hall.

  12. Sean MacCarthy says:

Give ‘em hell Ron, no way these press guys who’ve never picked up a glove can understand the greatness you brought to the game or the way you played.

  13. Pedro C. says:

Normally I’d say vote for Pedro, but in this case “Vote for Ron!”

  14. Ryan Mahoney says:

I signed this petition only as a favor to a friend, but this web site exhibits the fundemental problem with Cubs fans, managers, GMs and their owner. They fall in love with their own players and over value the talent level on their team.

  15. Josh Rosen says:

    thanks

  16. Stephen says:

Let him in. He is highly derserving as a player and has since become a great advoacte and ambassador for the game.

  17. Scott Taylor says:

    Let’s go Ronnie!

  18. Stephanie L. says:

We love Ronnie here in our household! Please vote him into the HOF on this round.

  19. Lisa Robison says:

I know Ron desrves this!! Would be nice to see him get it!!

  20. Bruce Colter says:

He deserves to be in the Hall

  21. Santo for Hall! Go Cubs!

Ron Santo for the Hall of Fame!

  23. Joe Lamancusa says:

    Go Ron.

  24. Matt Baker says:

I’m pretty sure ol’ Ronny might be better than Bill Mazeroski.

  25. One of the top 10 third baseman in the history of the game, and thus should have been an automatic vote into the Hall.

  26. John Mattern says:

    Santo earned it.

  27. Lisa Dreishmire says:

    Go, Ron!

  28. Jim Ashmead says:

What more can he do to prove he is one of the best

  29. Tim Asher says:

One of the top 10 third basemen belongs in the Hall. The time is now.

  30. Eric R. Brehm says:

Santo deserves to be in the Hall!!!!!!

  31. Charlie Galik says:

    Kick those heels!

  32. Mike Morris says:

Ron Santo was a great 3rd baseman and more importantly a Tremendous person. He inspired me to be the best I can be even through tough times.

  33. tony serio says:

    long over due

  34. Dan George says:

Santo belongs in the Hall of Fame. He was a 9-time All Star, won 5 straight Gold Gloves at the most demanding defensive position on the field, finished in the top 10 of the MVP voting 4 times, was a fixture at 3B in Chicago for nearly a decade and a half and did all of that while dealing with diabetes under the radar of the media. If a 3B in MLB was doing that today, he would be a media darling and presented as a hero. Vote Ron Santo in.

Then we will work on him going in with a White Sox cap.

  35. Chuck says:

Nice site. Let’s hope Ronnie gets in.

  36. Lou Winkels says:

This is a travesty that should have been rectified 15 years ago. Get that old Cub into the HoF now!

  37. Mark & Alan Edwards says:

My 9-year-old son and I visited the HOF last summer, and found the Hall diminished by Ron Santo’s absence. Ron’s absence made the Hall less credible to me; it made me think maybe these guys don’t really understand the game that well after all. That lessened my enjoyment of the Hall quite a bit. I hope the Hall realizes that it isn’t Santo’s reputation that suffers by his absence; it is the Hall’s.

  38. Nick says:

Ron Santo is diabetic and he played his heart out and his stats were that good. So why doesn’t he deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.

  39. Ryan says:

Ron is an inspiration to many people and he definitely deserves to be in the Hall of Fame.

  40. Jim Ebert says:

    Go Ronny!

  41. Brandon Brown says:

    Go Cubs!

  42. Denis says:

Let him in, he deserves it. Go Ronny!

  43. For the love of Chicago!

  44. jeff says:

    let him in!

  45. jeffery hubbard says:

Ron Santo was the Best Offensive and Defensive National League 3B of his era, and possibly the best offensive 3B in either league. He was remarkably consistent with the bat and the LEFT SIDE of the cub infield with Santo and Don Kessinger was practically inpenetrable.

The guy could flat out play. In basically a dead ball era dominated by pitching. Santo put up his stats against pitchers like Tom Seaver, Bob Gibson, and Steve Carlton. He outperformed other 3B that ended up in the hall.

Ron Santo is the 2nd Greatest CUB ever. And If it weren’t for the back to back MVP’s by Ernie Banks he was probably the greatest.

No player, past or present represents what the hall of fame should be about than RON SANTO. He loved the game, played it with all his heart every game and played it better than anyone at his position. Of all the 3rd basemen I’ve seen since the 60’s only Brooks Robinson, George Brett and Mike Schmidt were what Ron Santo was to the CUBs.

Leaving Santo out of the Hall is just plain Wrong.

  46. Scott Westphal says:

    He’s long overdue.

  47. Ralph Westphal says:

Lets get with it Baseball – we have waited long enough!!!!

  48. Katherine Bandy says:

Ron played the game like it should be. He always gave it his all. His numbers speak for himself. I honestly do not know why he has not been elected into the Hall. He played with diabetes in a time where there was not as much technolgy as there is today. Granted he does not want to be elected because he is pitied. He was a great player and a great person outside the game.

  49. Tim Hickey says:

Get this man into the HALL!

  50. Drew Curle says:
