My son is a little over 3, he his asking for drinks more during the day and has started wetting at night. I am not sure if its just a kid growing and needing more liquid or something more. I do still try to limit his drinks at night.
My 16 yr old half brother was diagnosed a couple of years back and I am not sure if the diabetes is on my Dad’s side or my step-mothers side.

    Diabetes Type 1
Also called: Insulin-dependent diabetes, Juvenile diabetes
Diabetes means your blood glucose, or blood sugar, is too high. With Type 1 diabetes, your pancreas does not make insulin.
Insulin is a hormone that helps glucose get into your cells to give them energy. Without insulin, too much glucose stays in your blood.
Over time, high blood glucose can lead to serious problems with your heart, eyes, kidneys, nerves, and gums and teeth.
Type 1 diabetes happens most often in children and young adults but can appear at any age. Symptoms may include
    Being very thirsty
    Urinating often
    Feeling very hungry or tired
    Losing weight without trying
    Having sores that heal slowly
    Having dry, itchy skin
Losing the feeling in your feet or having tingling in your feet
    Having blurry eyesight
A blood test can show if you have Type 1 diabetes. If you do, you will need to take insulin for the rest of your life.

Diabetes often goes undiagnosed because many of its symptoms seem so harmless. Recent studies indicate that the early detection of diabetes symptoms and treatment can decrease the chance of developing the complications of diabetes.
    Some diabetes symptoms include:
    Frequent urination
    Excessive thirst
    Extreme hunger
    Unusual weight loss
    Increased fatigue
    Irritability
    Blurry vision
If you have one or more of these diabetes symptoms, see your doctor right away.

Sometimes at 3 children push to see how much they can demand from parents. Sometimes they are legitimately thirsty, and too they sometimes go through sprees of bed wetting after they have been trained not to.
Talk to your pediatrician the next trip and see what the doctor says.

My husband is also Type 1 and very concerned that our daughter (7) may become diabetic. His mother was and his sister is. I can tell you that we have her checked through the peditrician periodically. His brother was my husband’s primary for years. He has always said that the main signs are excessive thirst and constant peeing are two major signs for children. Like there isn’t enough liquid in the house thirst and my bladder is is the size of a 10 gallon drum pee. If you are in doubt, call the doctor our use your own monitor to prick his finger.
