What Are My Chances Of Type 1 Or 2 Diabetes?
Im only a teenager, and my dad has type 2 diabetes, my cousin on my dad's sude has type 1, and my grandfather, plus his 6 relatives all have type 1 and 2 on my dad's side. What are my chances of getting diabetes? What is the ratio? Can I prevent diabetes? And will I have to go to the hospital if I am diagnosed with type 1 or 2 diabetes?

Here are some of the symptoms:
1. Loosing weight suddenly.
2. Frequent urination.
3. Always very thirsty.
4. Dire need to eat, always hungry.
5. Blurred vision.
6. Itching of the skin.
7. Numbness in extremities (arms & lags).
8. Slow healing of wounds.
9. Vaginal yeast infection.
10. Fatigue.
11. Irritability and changes in ones mood.
These are only indicative and not conclusive. Sometimes diabetes can be without symptoms also. You will be said to have diabetes if you sugar level remains high normally. It is confirmed by testing your blood and urine sugar levels after an overnight fast and again after food/sugar syrup. If there is no sugar in your urine it is called diabetes insipidus.
There’s really no way to say for sure what your chances are – it’s just known that you are at an increased risk for getting both type 1 or type 2.
Type 1 does have a more sudden onset and you may have to go to the hospital if not caught in time.
Type 2 has a more gradual onset and in most occurs later in life.
The best thing to do is to keep getting a yearly physical and the doc will continue to monitor your blood sugars and HbA1c
well obviously your risk is higher than most since there is diabetes in your family. If you eat right and exercise regularly you are not likely to develop type2, and if you can get to your 20s’ without symptoms it is unlikely that you have type 1.
