My brother in – law is in hospital. he is 53 and has type 1 diabetes. His creatinine is 12, calcium low enough to receive through IV, blood pressure always high, he had to get 3 units of blood for low H&H, definitely end stage renal failure, they are stabilizing him for dialysis. How long is his life expectancy ?

Type 1 diabetes is pretty serious, especially with high blood pressure. When was he told he had chronic kidney disease? How have his blood sugars been in the past? Renal failure means a serious situation for him. He has two negatives causing this, which is diabetes and high blood pressure. End stage is not a good outlook. I certainly do not want to sound so negative, but your question is something his wife needs to ask his doctor.

Ask his doctor. Every case is different.
It seems that your brother in law is dying of end stage renal failure – I’m not sure what his type one diabetes has got to do with it. Sounds more like he has some other issues, besides diabetes, that are the problem.
Type one diabetics do not have a shorter then average life expectancy. There are ways to control the disease now that allow us to lead long, normal lives.
