If you “have to have” sugar when you exercise, you know better than anyone here if you get hypoglycemic, so I wouldn’t risk going low because of what others may think. I’m a Type 1 myself.
One thing I have found out is that when you exercise in warmer/hot weather your blood sugar actually rises, and you need to take that into account.
My bigger concern is that you seem to be connecting belly flub with weight issues. Are your sugar levels OK? Have you had previous problems getting weight off? At 13 you still have some physical growing to do and things will balance out in a few years.
It’s great that you are being conscious of the importance of taking care of yourself. Just try not to be perfect since no one is.

    1 avoid desire for sugar.
2 do kapalbhati.(abdomen inside, breath out) empty stomach after drinking water.
3 do the body movement exercise like muslim do in namaj,Buddhist in praying.
4 your confidence and lifestyle change can do best.
5 i believe your diabetes may get cured.just do sincerely.

Gary – i have to be sure to eat at least 30g of carbs before a work out as well as a gatorade during, or even much more otherwise I drop. The Dr can tell you what he thinks is best but no one knows your own body like you do. Work WITH your Dr., not FOR him. You will have to tweak and experiment a little bit with your regime to get the factors right when exercising and managing diabetes.
I recommend staying away from “sugar” before a work out because it will just peak and then burn out quickly. I go for foods like oatmeal, GapeNuts (cereal) pasta or a power bar. Those keep my sugar up LONGER and last through the work out.
Also I time my exercise so that it is shortly after a regular meal like breakfast lunch or dinner. That way I don’t have to eat an additional meal or snack just to hit the gym.
My work outs last a from 1 – 2 hours so I definitely burn off whatever I put into my body before hand for a lil carb boost.
I also avoid taking insulin 1 hour before my work out. My sugar can go up a bit from skipping my insulin, like up to 200, but that is perfect for me because then it drops right back down to 95 when exercising. Its tricky to figure out how it will work for you but you will get it. Its slightly different for everyone.
You can try concentrating on core exercises which refers to your core muscle the upper, lower and side abs. This can help tone your stomach but the thing is there is no guarantee that working on your stomach area will reduce the “pouch”.
You are only 13 so as you grow your body will go through physical changes and you may loose that tummy or it may be more exaggerated.
Definitely rotate your injection site. Never use the same area, and alternate with the back of your arms, and inside and outside of the thighs.
    Good luck : )

Discuss this with your endocrinologist to make sure it’s not lipohyertrophy from doing injections in the same spot. Your endo can also explain how to reduce your insulin to accomodate working out.
You can workout and lose weight and tighten up, but it’s just a bit tricker when you have diabetes to avoid the hypos.

    EXERCISE!
Do crunches, sit-ups, thing like that.
What you describe is not really fat, but is more like a “lack of tone” in those muscles (the six pack) that run across your belly.
No, you do NOT “have” to have sugar. That is a “habit” not a “need”; it is an “excuse” to eat sweets, not a “reason”. You need to pay STRICT attention to your diet. Do EXACTLY what the doctor recommends.
BEFORE you begin to do these exercises, consult with your doctor concerning the necessary changes in your diet to accomodate the increase in exercise. You WILL need to eat more, and you may need to increase your carb count A LITTLE BIT to accomodate the exercise, but TALK TO THE DOCTOR before making ANY changes in your diet, exercise, or medication.

Ok first off to Gary B – diabetics do need some kind of glucose when they are exercising to stp their glucose level from going too low which could like to a hypoglycemic reaction.
To answer the question another poster mentioned that you may be injecting in the same place too often. This can cause the muscle to feel lumpy. It’s best to vary where you inject to prevent this.
If you belly doesn’t feel lumpy then you may have a little bit of flab there. This may be because you haven’t exercised as often now you have diabetes.
Don’t let that put you off. You can still do all kinds of exercises as long as you watch your sugar level and watch out for signs of low sugar level, such as impaired vision and confusion.
Start out with light exercise such as walking or riding your bike, make sure you stay well hydrated and carry a pack of dextrose with you or a banana or apple.
I wouldn’t advise moderate to heavy exercise until you have had you diabetes for a while. You don’t want to run the risk of a hypo.
If you’ve stopped being more active because of your diabetes then even a small change like walking or biking will help you lose wait. And as long as your not wolfing down too much sugar (which isn’t good for you!) and using dextrose or fruit when you exercise then you shouldn’t gain weight.
Remember to check your sugar level before and after you exercise and talk to your doctor or diabetes clinic about exercising and weight gain.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
