My husband is a type 1 diabetic and he has progressed to a moody and snappy man that I didn’t know existed. I don’t know if that’s just him or maybe the diabetes.

Has Anyone Ever Heard Of Type 1 Diabetes Effecting A Persons Mood ?

Absopositivalutely! I’m type one. I have virtually NO temper. However, when my sugar goes high I’m FURIOUS. Mad at the whole world. I really want to punch someone then.
I am opposite of Indianamom. When I go low, I turn into a crab. Most other times my mood is pretty stable. Any fluctuations in blood sugar high or low can affect mood.
That’s a hard call but blood sugar levels affect my mood. The more extreme the high or the low, the wackier I am. Since this is out of the ordinary for him, I suggest you get him to see his doctor to have him checked out.
I am 33 years old and I’ve had type 1 diabetes since I was six years old. Yes, it’s true, we can get moody and crabby. I get moody when my blood sugar is low. When my blood sugar is high, I just get really thirsty. I remember as a kid, when I would act up, my parents would say “oh, she’s probably acting like that because her sugar is low” and I would get away with it (even if my sugar was fine). I still get away with my moodiness today. He He He!!
Seriously though…..Try to find out if his moodiness is due to low blood sugars or high blood sugars. This can be resolved by regulating either one. If he is still moody……Sorry, it’s just him!
Best of luck!!
yes yes and yes. highs and lows can trigger different moods such as anger or crabbiness. However most diabetics also will suffer from depression without knowing it. I do and it took me a long time to actually realize it. this is also a cause of Large mood swings and snappiness. i suggest talking to a counselor or therapist and seeing what they think, or checking his blood sugars when he gets to be cranky if its not all the time and see if hes high or low or what.
Living with a chronic disease is very demanding and is associated with depression. He may need to talk to a counselor.
