Yes it is possibly related – anything that stressed your pancreas can cause it, such as an infection, or blow to the pancreas that causes swelling and inflammation of it. (Or maybe an infection following the injury of it).
Of course it’s a long shot and probably not related, but did she really get hit hard? It is possible.
In my own experience with my hubby, I noticed he drinks a lot of water and urinates often, he lost 10kg in 1 month w/o dieting, he suddenly has the sore in his toe nail(under the nail, he feels sleepy most of the time, as it runs in his blood(family history) i suspected that he has high blood sugar, and yes its positive……..hope the above helps you…I also find this blog very helpful for diabetes treatment: http://diabetespreventionandtreatment.blogspot.com
no sweetie. type 1 diabetes has nothin to do with a blow to the body. it can happen to anyone at anytime. i am a type 1 diabetic and i was normal for about 16 years and poof my sugar started dropping every 4 hours or so.
No.
It’s possible, but only if the blow was especially severe (like needing to go to the ER afterwards and in that case, the doctors would have kept her in the hospital because of the injury). So, even though it’s possible, it’s very unlikely. It is far more likely (99%) that the diabetes was already developing. Type 1 can develop rather suddenly in many cases, and in other cases it becomes noticeable rather suddenly after weeks or months of missed symptoms.
Type 1 can be caused by other things besides autoimmunity, including genetics, extreme stress, starvation, chemically induced (like from toxic exposure or the use of anesthesia during surgery in some people) and serious injuries (for those answerers who can’t seem to accept that). By far the most common cause seems to autoimmunity, but it is not the only cause.
In this case, it is highly unlikely. If her pancreas were so injured that it is now failing to produce insulin, she’d also be lacking in the many enzymes produced by the pancreas that are vital to the digestive process. Thus, she’d not only be suffering from diabetes but a multitude of endocrinological and digestive problems. Type one diabetes is an autoimmune disease (type one diabetics have antibodies present) and not the result of trauma. It would take a great trauma to the abdomen and most likely subsequent necrosis or removal of the parts of the pancreas that produce insulin to induce a state LIKE that of type one, but this would NOT be CONSIDERED to be type one diabetes but rather diabetes mellitus and other pancreatic insufficiencies secondary to trauma.
