My Husband Is Suffering From Type 1 Diabetes Can My Child Too Get It ?
By 9 Comments
Every male in my husbands family has type 1 diabetes, so there is a chance that my son will develop it but the way I look on it is that it is no longer a death sentence due to medical advances in their care so by the time he is older medical advances will have jumped. They tend to develop it in their late twenties so my son hopefully has 20 years until he reaches that age.
First of all, type 1 does not come from poor diet and lack of exercise. That’s type 2, don’t get them confused.
Most type 1s have no family history of it, and any child the two of you have has a 10% chance of getting it. There isn’t one gene that causes type 1, it’s a block of them, and most type 1s get part of this block from each parent.
But it isn’t just the genes, there’s something that triggers it, something environmental, but nobody really knows what that is yet.
You shouldn’t worry so much about your child having it. If it’s well managed it shouldn’t shorten their lifespan at all. And your child will have a father who knows the signs so you can catch it early, and will be able to help … where the rest of us go into this not knowing anything.
Type 1 diabetes is usually diagnosed in children and young adults, and it was previously known as juvenile diabetes.
In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. Insulin is a hormone that is needed to convert sugar, starches and other food into energy needed for daily life.
there are chances that it will can spread from parents to children(genetically)
I come from a family of diabetes and not all of my siblings have diabetes except me. My mother and I am the only ones that are affected by diabetes. there is a slight chance that your child will also get diabetes if you aren’t making sure that he/she stays away from too much sweets.
My dad and I both have type 1, but I think that is relatively rare. My endocrinologist said I am the first type 1 patient he has that he knows of who is the son of a type 1 parent. And my sister is fine.
I worry my kids will get it, but there isn’t the slam dunk definite genetic answer to the question to I try not to think on it too much.
My father and my grandmother(his mother) had diabetes, now I have it but my sister and brother don’t. So there’s a chance your baby will and a chance your baby won’t.
yes, prachi
there is d chance that ur baby also infected with that.
so to prevent ur baby. just give baby a healthy diet.
but remember, still there is the chance.
The genetic link between fathers with type 1 and their offspring is very weak. I heard this from my son’s dieabetes educator. He has type 1 and has four children who do not have diabetes.
Great. Now i can say thank you!,
