Georgie, uh, I mean Gene, this is getting out of hand! Either accept my offer to do the games or I give the job to Ozzie Smith, whom you haven’t mentioned and is a pretty good commentator!

  2. Mr Cellophane says:

The current trend is needing someone that looks good on camera, politically correct and speaks with little or no accent. The idea is to fill in the dead time between pitches and commercials. The media hires a consulting firm to figure out demographics of the audience, yada yada yada ad nausium.
In my humble opinion,a good announcer must:
*above all else, must have a love for the game.
    * You can tell by listening to him that he is a big fan
    * for the players and not be a disinterested bystander that can read stats from a book.
    * Personality is more important than proper grammar.
Everyone knows the guy that sits at home with a beer in one hand, munching on snacks and talks to the TV as the game is in progress as if they could here him in the stadium. The good announcers should be able to demonstrate that same passion on camera, (beer optional).

  3. Barry auh2o says:

So, none meet your approval? Your credibility doesn’t meet mine either.

  4. 2 Cupcakes says:

I think you need to broaden your interests. Geeze!

  5. MAzembe says:

    Lack of skills

  6. Dodgerbl says:

all were former players who did’t prepare for announcing. They need more people like Vin Scully.

  7. Crankin it up says:

    I like Dave O Brien

  8. haccord7 says:

Not only cause I’m a Met fan but the TV team is good expect for Keith Hernandez. Ron Darling is right now the best

  9. soxak says:

In my opinion the two best announcers in baseball are Jerry Remmy and Don Orsillo for the red sox. They have the best chemistry and they have great commentary. If you want to listen to good announcers listen to them. No I don’t think that all announcers are bad. Also I don’t believe I am being biased either. I love the sox, but I have listened to alot of announcers too and have just made the opinion that they are two great announcers.

  10. Nick B says:

    REMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!…

  11. Meli says:

    I love Mickael Kay

  12. joeroafa says:

Michael Kay, Joe Girardi, Ken Singleton, Al Leiter, and Paul O’Neill?
    there good!
o and John Flaherty is good 2

  13. Niko Lenin says:

I don’t think Ed Farmer is bad because I listen to him a lot as a Whitesox fan ( when he was the announcer) and now as the Cardinals……Ron Santo is the ‘effing worst announcer ever.

  14. Blueberries Thompson says:

I like Joe Morgan form ESPN, he’s inciteful an knows a lot about the game. Whoever says Michael Kay has terrible taste in commentary.

  15. artistic says:

Wow – you either have listened to WAY too much baseball in your life, or you must be bored and googling “baseball announcers”.
If you had actually heard all of those announcers – you must be pretty freakin’ old – considering that in your 3 incredibly stupid questions you have asked about Jack Quinlan, (died 1964 – a very dear friend and former broadcast colleague of my father) Bert Wilson, (broadcast through 1955) Harry Heilmann, (last broadcast in 1950) and Ronald Reagan (last broadcast in 1936).
Maybe for your next question (parts 1-3) you can look up groundskeepers instead. They really suck nowadays.

  16. Scott Lewis says:

The best baseball announce is Ron Santo. It’s his passion, not his skill that makes Ronnie so good.
