Which retired ball player do you think should be the next player to go in? Be real; don’t just name your favorite player.
By the way, I think both Ron Santo and Don Mattingly should go in.

The best candidate on the 2009 BBWAA ballot is Rickey Henderson.
Jim Rice will get in as well. I’m not a Rice advocate, but I am glad it will be over, one way or the other.
Other BBWAA candidates worthy and who might get in: Bert Blyleven.
If Ron Santo gets on the VC ballot, and he probably will, he merits their full consideration.

    Gil Hodges,without a doubt
Bert Blyleven is also a no doubter.

This is just a short list of players who more than deserve to be in the hall of fame. The Baseball Writers Association, for whatever reasons, have turned their collective backs on these great players. The Veteran’s Committee, in recent years, has not done a very good job in collecting players who have since passed the 15 year eligibility list.
The system is far from perfect and something needs to be done to correct it.

I’m not sold on any of the returning candidates. Bert Blyleven probably would be at the top of my list, and Tim Raines at least deserves strong consideration. Jim Rice was great for a while but not for a really long time, and Tommy John was good for a long time but never really great. Guys like Don Mattingly and Dale Murphy don’t measure up in my book.
Rickey Henderson should go in right away as a first-timer in Jan. Should be a great speech. Ron Santo is the most glaring mistake for the Veterans Committee, although Marvin Miller should fit in somewhere.
And one of these days, writer Bill James ought to make it. His impact on the game has been enormous.

  9. I’m very happy Andre Dawson made history to be in the Hall of Fame…

I personally love to see Ron Santo in the Hall of Fame…
