cepting for harry……rip
Ron is the WORST baseball announcer in Chicago. That’s a distinct honor, in a city with the following luminaries calling professional baseball: Hawk Harrelson, Darren Jackson, Ed Farmer and Chris Singleton.
Ronnie is also costing himself in Hall of Fame balloting with his constant campaigning. He is maybe deserving (stats probably say so), but he was on a team that sucked forever. Also, Ronnie tries to gain sympathy due to the fact that diabetes has not been kind to him in the past 10 to 12 years.
Ronnie is not very observant while “commentating” on the game, and does nothing more than cheer when things are good, and groan when things go bad for the Cubs.
PS…please don’t call them the “Cubbies.” You don’t call other teams the “Reddies” or the “Fishies.” It’s a name synonymous with losing.
I must agree, even though I am a Brewers fan. I have to listen to games on my computer and go through http://www.freebaseballradio.com/ because I’m too cheap to suscribe to MLB. I’ve found that WROK usually, and WBOW sometimes, will stream the Cubs games. I’ve never heard Ron Santo before but find him very entertaining, and I’ve always liked Pat Hughes from back when he did Brewer games with Bob Uecker.
I agree 100%. As a cub fan, ronnie is my hero. It sucks that we don’t get a WGN radio station in better than we do. The reception sucks otherwise i would listen to him a lot more. But i still listen through the static and i gotta agree that he is the most passionate cub fan ever. It’s really hard to believe all that Ronnie went through to become the great ballplayer he was. He lost both those legs but still fought his way back to the radio booth. I really can’t believe the veteran’s committee hasn’t voted him into the hall. Those are the ppl who played along side him and you would think they would see just how much passion for the game he has. I’m sure you’ve seen it already but if not, you gotta check out THIS OLD CUB, the documentary on him…it makes me cry every time. I’m sure you’ve seen it already, but ya if we got WGN radio better, i would prolly turn down the tv just to hear him….it’s great whenever you listen to him, becuz say the cubs screw somethin up, you realize u aren;t the only one pissed off about it when Ronnie screams OH NOOOO into the mic, he prolly ain’t got the greatest radio voice ever, but he sure has the greatest passion and heart for the game/
Please Ron that double down the third base line should have a list been stopped to a single, did not even try to stop it
