Best National League 3rd baseman of the 1960′s should count for something.
Does he have a leg to stand on?

Santo has better offensive stats than Brooks Robinson. Robinson’s career fielding % is a bit better. If Brooks is in, so should Ron.

  2. Chipmake says:

He should be, he deserves it, and that was extremely tasteless.

  3. THIS IS THE YEAR!!!CUBBIE 4 LIFE says:

    He deserves it

  4. Philtrat says:

    Sure. When he is dead.
The people that vote on this are just jag offs.

Santo was a very good player. He hit 342 home runs, with 1331 RBIs, with a lifetime batting average of .342. I understand as a result of broadcasting Cubs games he has become an icon in Chicago. I feel the Hall of Fame is for the best of the best, or the great ones. Unfortunately over the years we have allowed some very good and just good plyers(mazeroski, rick ferrell) into the hall. We also like to compare the statistics of players in the hall, to the players who have been omitted, and rationalize that they also belong in.
Bottom line, Santo was a VERY GOOD PLAYER, not a great one.
If he gets in, I will not get annoyed, but congratulate him.

let me tell you every year cubs fans hope he does, to this day hes with the club when he can be and he broadcasts all the games over the radio, for someone to be that good in there era and still be helping the club today, i hope he ends up in cooperstown sometime soon

He is a wonderful guy and was a very good third baseman. He is not however a HOFer. But then, neither was Jim Rice nor Bill Mazeroski. Nor is Andre Dawson.
The voters are seemingly diluting the requirements these days.

  8. Uncle Unicorn says:

No. Very good…not great. And again …if his peers had three chances to elect him in the last six years and haven’t done it yet – it’s not going to happen. Now – if you want to open up a 3B Hall Of Fame, he’s got my vote.
    And yeah, Bagel ….tasteless.

Ha ha ha. Gross. But, no, the writers run the show. They are not really capable as a group to make a deeply good choice about anything. It’s a shame. He should have been there 15 years ago, too.
