   I HATE KEITH HERNANDEZ!!
   sorry, had to throw a seinfeld reference out there.
   they are like many others who get snubbed yearly by those bitter old men sports writers who must take it out on someone that they are in a dying medium.
   just a few names I think are deserving:
   Jim Rice
   Andre Dawson
   pete rose
   lee smith
   tommy john
   dwight evans

   Yes, I would say they both deserve to make the hall but it’s only right that Santo go in before Keith.

   Vince E is spot on. Ron Santo had an incredible career, though brief, in a day when 3rd basemen simply didn’t sparkle. He was known as the NL’s Brooks Robinson. Even though the Boyer brothers were both very good, it was know by all that the greatest 3rd baseman of the day was Brooks Robinson and the greatest NL 3rd baseman, and 2nd best overall, was Ron Santo.
   Keith Hernandez really ought to be in the Hall, too.

   I think Santo is borderline but Hernandez is just out.
   Santo matches up pretty good with Brooks. The question is “Does Santo’s offensive edge offset Brooks’ defensive edge?”
   RS: 2243 G, 2254 H, 342 HR, 1331 RBI, .277 BA, 9 AS, 5 GG
   BR: 2896 G, 2848 H, 268 HR, 1357 RBI, .267 BA, 18 AS, 16 GG
   Hernandez was an excellent fielder but no 1B has ever made the HOF based on his fielding. Offensively Hernandez was similar to Wally Joyner who won’t be getting in the Hall either.
   One you left out was Jim Kaat. Career record of 283-237, 2461 strikeouts, and a 3.45 ERA. On top of that he had 3 A.S. selections and 16 Gold Gloves.

   Gil Hodges should also be considered.
   8-time All Star
   3 Gold gloves — including the first ever rewarded
   2nd most home runs in the 1950′s (First was Duke Snider; 3rd Eddie Mathews)
   An RBI machine — over 100 ten times in a row
   Holds the record for sacrifice flies in a season (19 in 1954)
   Was 11th in all-time homers when he retired (has more career homers than Yogi Berra)
   Led the Mets to a world championship in 1969
   Revolutionized play at First Base — made it a mobile position

   There is a whole lot more.

   No to both. I loved watching Hernandez, smooth player. Santo was awesome-at Wrigley Field. Nether are Hall of Fame material, solid players though.
   I think it’s time Pete Rose was acknowledged for the Hall, even though he is a j*rk. Maybe some day when he’s dead. He was my idol growing up. What a player !

    No comparison. Santo was one of the best 3B in the game when he played. He was overshadowed by Brooks Robinson and Eddie Mathews his whole career. Hernandez was a terrific hitter and fielder but not even close to the best 1B in his era. He was fortunate enough to play on alot better teams compared to Santo and playing in NY gave him ALOT of exposure especially during the playoffs. Santo played on alot of bad Cubs teams. Remember the CUbs didn’t draw alot of fans back then. So his exposure was limited compared to Hernnandez playing in a completely different era and market.

    I feel Santo should be. A consistent bright spot for Cubs’ teams that were going nowhere (not A’s teams, as was mentioned), he set the standard for NL 3bers in his day.
    I agree, as mentioned, that Hernandez was a very good player, but I don’t feel that he was anything out of the ordinary. There were other 1b that were very close to Hernandez in style of play and attributes, that weren’t necessarily in the right place at the right time (Montanez, Hutton, Jorgenson, etc.)

    I think Santo deserves it, he was one of the constants in the A’s dynasty, and one of the stars of his era. Hernandez wasn’t quite as big a star as Santo. Hernandez is like a Jim Rice type-guy. I think Pete Rose should definitely be reinstated and I think that when he’s eligible, Bernie Williams (a name not many people have talked about) and Barry Larkin. They both were great in their prime and exemplified the Hall Of Famer, talent, intangibles, helping their team win, even though Larkin never got the credit he deserved.

    I think Santo definitely does, he has done just as much even with diabetes & fewer seasons. I’m a huge B. Robinson fan & I can even say that Santo deserves to be up there with him. I heard robinson is playing in the legends sports challenge soon? sounds interesting. Anyway, I will be upset if Santo once again doesn’t make it into the Hall of Fame.
